Beautiful loser

The Beautiful Losers film ... in their own words:
"Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture. Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories...speaking to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth."

TEH meeting #67 - Stanica, Slovakia

At the begining of may me, Cattis and Ella went to Slovakia to represent Subtopia at the 67th meeting of Trans Europe Halles - a network consisting of 50 independent culture centres spread out in Europe. It was my third meeting and really great to meet everybody again.

The venue was crazy... as Stanica (the centre were the meeting was held) had no venue that could take all the participants Marek and his crew had built a new meeting hall built entirely from beer crates and hay. Tootally crazy... (click here for more pics of the construction..)

Decorations

I just got home and it was really dark and cold. Then it struck me... it is really time to start working on christmas decorations both at home and at work. This is what I am aiming for.

KaosPilot Applications 2008

The creative assignment in the application to Team 15 at the KaosPilots in Aarhus was to present a "burning question" on video along with three perspectives/solutions and post it to three communities. Found a bunch of them on Youtube.

Charles Leadbeater

Sunday evening me and Karin will head off to Warzaw for a conference on "Creative Cities" hosted by British Council.

I'm so stoked to meet all the awesome people who will be attending... including Charles Leadbeater who is releasing his new book shortly.

...and for those of you who have not yet seen his presentation on TED... well, I strongly reccomend you to check it out.

I'm also really curious about Lorraine Gammon who will lecture on "The dark side of creativity"... Please drop a comment if you know who she is.

Reactable

This is Reactable.

It is a cheap music machine that can be built from home electronics (a projector, a video camera, some frosted glass) and software allowing movements, visuals and music to blend into one medium.

My main reason why I want to take these people to the event in Botkyrka is that I want to try out the table myself. I don't know how these guys see themselves but someone should tell them... They are not a band - they are the inventors of the coolest electronic socializing/music game ever. Fuck guitar hero... Imagine being like 8 people around a table like this one, or if the bar you went to had tables like this and the glasses that you drank from had symbols in the bottom so that every person with a glass got a piece to controll and add to the music.
